Receptive Music therapy involves the use of techniques in which the patient is receiving music in the sense that they are not actively performing it. There are different methods and techniques of Receptive Music Therapy. One of them is vibroacoustic therapy.
The main therapeutic goals of receptive experiences are those of:
-promoting receptivity;
-evoking specific bodily responses;
-stimulating or relaxing;
-evoking affective states and experiences;
-exploring ideas and thoughts;
-facilitating memory, reminiscences and regressions;
-evoking fantasies and imagination;
-stimulating spiritual experiences;
-promoting psychological insight;
-changing mood; and
-reducing heart rate and blood pressure.
